Corpse Bride
Finally caught Corpse Bride last night with yiting and sunshine. I liked it. But still, i felt that it fell short of my expectations. I've been anticipating the release of the film since the beginning of the year and somehow i just didn't get blown away like i thought i would. Nevertheless, Tim Burton delivered, as usual, in terms of the amazing mise-en-scene. It was beautiful, as was the cinematography. The musical score was lovely, except for the songs which were forgettable. I did love the piano solo and duet, though. What fell short then? I believe that there was just something lacking in the story. Maybe it was the disneyified ending which denied the film of a more edgy feel. Maybe is was the rather bland characters. At some points I actually felt bored because it just got too draggy. All that being said, I watch Tim Burton films more for the stylistic elements than anything else and in that department he delivered with great precision.
I still can't decide if I like this more than The Nightmare Before Christmas.
